Our history
The Vermont Seniors' Golf Association (VTSGA) was founded in 1935. The constitution and by-laws were adopted in 1938. The goals of this Association is to encourage and promote good fellowship and friendly competition among senior golfers. Initially an annual tournament was scheduled at the Ekwanok Country Club in Manchester, VT.
The age requirement for membership was 45, and the dues were set at $5.00. Intra Club matches were sponsored, and matters pertaining to the United States Golf Association were attended to.
On June 17, 1962 the VTSGA was reorganized at an Annual Meeting held at the Burlington Country Club. The age limit was raised to 50 (now 55), and the membership limited to 100 (now unlimited). 52 members participated in the first of two tournaments that year (Burlington CC and Woodstock CC). 34 members attended the Annual Meeting and 22 stayed for dinner.
In 1963 the Association donated $100.00 to a VTSGA Caddie Scholarship Fund. In 1964 the Vermont Golf Association Scholarship Fund Inc. (VGASF) was established, and $400.00 was awarded to the first recipient. The VSGASF now contributes $4,000.00 a year through the organization of the Vermont Golf Association.
The VTSGA conducts 4 tournaments a year including a Championship, a combined two tournament Net Championship (Sabin C. Abel Trophy), the James E. Simpson Team Tournament, and the John Larkin Super Senior for those members 70 and older. Inter-state matches with 12 man teams are held against Massachusetts, New Hampshire and Quebec, Canada. These tournaments continue to contribute funds to the VGA Scholarship Fund.
