Our history

The Vermont Seniors' Golf Association (VTSGA) is an independent not for profit organization that was founded in 1935 at Ekwanok Country Club. The constitution and by-laws were adopted in 1938. The goals of this Association are to encourage and promote good fellowship and friendly competition among senior golfers and support scholarships for young golfers. Initially an annual tournament was scheduled at the Ekwanok Country Club in Manchester, VT in order for the founding course to consistently be on the rotation.

The age requirement for membership was 45, and the dues were set at $5.00. Intra Club matches were sponsored, and matters pertaining to the United States Golf Association were attended to.

On June 17, 1962 the VTSGA was reorganized at an Annual Meeting held at the Burlington Country Club. The age limit was raised to 50 (now 55), and the membership limited to 100 (now unlimited). 52 members participated in the first of two tournaments that year (Burlington CC and Woodstock CC). 34 members attended the Annual Meeting and 22 stayed for dinner.

Today we have around 250 members. To be active and be able to play in our events you have to join each year. At present dues are $50.00 a year.

1963 the Association donated $100.00 to a VTSGA Caddie Scholarship Fund. In 1964 the Vermont Golf Association Scholarship Fund Inc. (VGASF) was established, and $400.00 was awarded to the first recipient. The VSGASF now contributes $4,000.00 a year through the organization of the Vermont Golf Association.

The VTSGA conducts about 15 tournaments a year at the best private and public courses in Vermont and a few in neighboring states such as New York, New Hampshire and Massachusetts. One of these tournaments is designated as our championship event of the year where we crown our gross champion. Each tournament awards net and gross prizes with optional skins. Currently we hold interstate matches with 12 man teams against New Hampshire and Connecticut. These tournaments provide a way for VTSGA to continue to contribute funds to the VGA Scholarship Fund.

VTSGA is independent of the Vermont Golf Association, but the two work together to enhance the experience of Vermont golfers.
