Biography
I am Chal and I am a native of Clarksville, Virginia where I attended public schools, played baseball, worked in the family tobacco business and attended Duke University as an undergraduate, medical school and residency training. I am an internist and gastroenterologist.
I practiced medicine for 10 years but in 1994 I decided to change careers and became the first physician in administration for the hospital. In 1999 I took a new job at Centra Health and began a career of medical leadership in Lynchburg, Va and today I work part time as an executive coach with physicians.
I had to step away from my career due to Parkinson’s in 2015. A silver lining to this was it allowed me to spend my summers on Lake Champlain and play golf every day.
I have participated in almost every state day with VGA and all the events put on by VTSGA over the years. Father Skip “maneuvered“ me to the board of VTSGA after I won the 2020 VTSGA championship at Woodstock. That same year I had a goal of playing in the Vermont Amateur. I qualified at Williston and played at Stowe. I was the oldest guy in the field and I think the only one with Parkinsons. I didn’t finish last. I still dream about that year and couldn’t believe it happened
Golf has been the best exercise and mental health partner for my fight with Parkinson’s. I have been blessed to have played in Scotland and Ireland, and some of the top courses in the world but it has not been about winning or the courses I have played. It is all about the people, the new friendships, new competitors and to be a part of the camaraderie we all share as golfers
I love Vermont Golf. Our family has been enjoying Vermont for 50 years and Vermont Golf has been my friend and community full time for the last 9 years.
I am hopeful that the deep brain stimulation surgery in late August will be a success and I can continue to promote golf for seniors as your president and get back to playing well so I can reach another goal which is to shoot my age one day.

I served as an assistant principal and principal for six years and then transitioned to become a superintendent of schools for seven years. In the 1990s I worked for the VT Chamber of Commerce, serving as the executive director for developing business and education partnerships. Later in my education career, I served as the associate director for the VT School Boards Association. There I consulted with school board members and superintendents on strategies for passing school budgets and following laws and good leadership practices.
Along the way I found time to develop timberframe building skills. My wife and I built our post and beam home together in 1977 and over the ensuing years I augmented family finances helping others create their colonial dream homes and buildings. I helped coach a couple of girls AAU basketball teams that competed regionally and at the national levels.

Biography
Born and raised in Queensbury, NY. For over 30 years I was the broker/owner of the local Re/Max real estate franchise. I closed the franchise 2 years ago to spend more time traveling and playing golf with my family. I still work for an independent real estate company and plan to retire in the next 2 years.
I started playing golf at the age of 8 and would ride my bike to the local golf course pulling my pull cart behind me. I wasn’t very good but loved playing the game. The other sport I started at the same age was ski racing with my biggest accomplishment winning the 1975 Nastar Nationals in Aspen, CO.
My family is everything to me. Being married for 43 years to the women who has kept me grounded as well as she can. I have a daughter (8 handicap) and daughter-in-law (3 handicap) who I love playing in tournaments with. They have a bucket list of courses they want to play around the country. So, I’ve decided to start spending their inheritance and play golf with them until I can’t hit a ball anymore. LOL
